NOTICE TO GRADUANDS FOR THE 2023/2024 ACADEMIC SESSION

1. To pay for the convocation package, all categories of graduands are to visit: _

_ and follow the steps on the payment portal.

1. Academic Gowns should be returned immediately after the ceremony latest by Friday, 11th April 2025 to avoid penalty.

2. Any graduand who holds on to the Academic Gown beyond Friday, 11th April 2025, will be liable to a fine of Five Hundred Naira (N500:00) only, for each day of default. Also, any graduand who loses OR damages the Academic Gown would pay a sum of Thirty Thousand, Naira (N30,000:00) only, as replacement fee.

3. Graduands are to NOTE that certificates will be available for collection immediately after the Convocation Ceremony, subject to return of academic gown.

4. First degree graduands are to move the tassels of their caps from right to left at a point during the ceremony, when the Vice-Chancellor declares; “I admit you all”. This signifies their admission into the body of Graduates of Lagos State University (LASU). Higher degree recipients should put on their caps, with the tassels placed at the left-hand side, since they already have their first degrees.

5. ALL graduands should seek the assistance of Faculty Officers to ensure that the hood and cap are properly worn, with the tassels (cords) of the cap positioned to the right.

6. Female graduands are expected to show courtesy when they shake hands with the Vice-Chancellor, while male graduands bow, but should NOT remove their caps.

7. Parents/Guardians and Invited Guests are advised to be seated NOT later than 8:30 a.m. on each day.

8. Graduands are to ADHERE STRICTLY to the following:

i. Graduands are to join the Convocation Procession by 9:00 a.m; failing which they will not be allowed into the University Auditorium.

ii. Graduands in each Faculty are expected to be seated in the sections provided for them in the University Auditorium.

iii. Unauthorised movements and taking of photographs will not be allowed during the convocation ceremony. Graduands are, therefore, advised in their own interest to complete such activity before coming into the University Auditorium OR wait till after the ceremony. Any graduand who leaves his/her seat while the ceremony is on will NOT be allowed to return to the Auditorium. This is to ensure ORDERLINESS during the Convocation Ceremony.

iv. Graduands and Invited Guests under the canopy outside the University Auditorium are requested to be orderly and rise to their feet as the Academic Procession enters AND leaves the convocation venue.

v. Graduands should be properly robed; and are also advised to conform to the colour prescribed for their Faculties.

vi. All graduands are required to immediately commence and complete the process of their clearance in their respective College/Schools/Faculties before the convocation, in order to facilitate the collection of their degree certificates.

The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced the commencement of the 2025 JAMB Direct Entry Registration, a pivotal opportunity for individuals holding degrees, diplomas, or A-level certificates aiming to join a university degree program. JAMB Direct Entry Eligibility

To be eligible for Direct Entry, you must meet specific academic qualifications. These include:

• A minimum of O’level credit pass in five (5) SSSC subjects at not more than two sittings with at least two prescribed subjects for each programme (course of study) at the Principal or Advanced level.
• Two passes [in prescribed subjects for each (programme) course of study] at the A’Level Examination awarded by IJMB, Cambridge, JUPEB or Institute of Baccalaureate with three other credit passes in the SSCE.

The progress is almost beyond belief. Your intellectual prowess demonstrates that we only have two higher institutions —LASU and others.”

Comrade Omisore Michael, the 16th President of LASUSU, echoed these sentiments, emphasising that the visit was a gesture of support and appreciation for the Vice-Chancellor’s exceptional work.

Comrade Ayodele Olabiwonninu, Secretary of the Nigerian Bar Association (Ikeja Branch) and former union executive, led the group in presenting a plaque to the Vice-Chancellor in recognition of her transformative leadership and the progress seen at LASU.

The accolades were concluded by Comrade Ayodele Olatunde, Convener of the group, and the 16th Speaker of the Students’ Parliamentary Council, who reaffirmed the group’s commitment to supporting the success of the Vice-Chancellor’s administration.

In her response, Prof. Olatunji-Bello credited her success to God’s guidance and the support of the university community. “Our achievements are a gift from God; there’s nothing extraordinary about it. When you have God on your side, you can achieve anything. I am blessed with both God’s favour and the support of the university community, and together, we succeed,” she said.

Today, Monday 3rd March 2025, marks the official commencement of your First Semester Examinations for the 2024/2025 Academic Session. On behalf of the management and staff of Lagos State University, I extend my warmest wishes to each and every one of you as you begin this important phase of your academic journey.

The First Semester has undoubtedly been a challenging yet rewarding experience for all of us. You have shown resilience, dedication, and a commitment to your studies that is truly commendable.

Nonetheless, as we begin the examinations today, I know that many of you may be feeling anxious, apprehensive, and hopefully, just a little bit excited.
